Eh Up Dazco,

there's always an exception to the rule and you're it!

I'm not bad matey. Currently out of a job though but got everything crossed for a new position before too long.

I won't ask how you got injured at work, as it could by anything with your past records!

Heel quickly matey.

Hey - silver linings and all that, but do you think you might be able to make it to this? I owe you a beer, at the very least! :scooter:

Debs

The Cameraman 13 Feb 2010 10:30

Hi Debs,

not sure but I'll know by the middle of next week. How's things with you and the trusty Serow?

debseed 13 Feb 2010 18:02

:mchappy: Good thanks - we've been out on a run today. Hope you get the job and its a weekends off one!

Laura Bennitt 13 Feb 2010 21:51

As per usual plans are changing, not sure when I'll be around though will definitely make part of the weekend, but will sort myself out for brekkie as don't know if I'll be coming down on Friday or up on Saturday.

Laura

Debz 14 Feb 2010 15:38

Hi all

Ted - Sorry to hear about your injury, I hope your ribs heal well and if you make a remarkable recovery, maybe you can still make it along?

Paul - do you have a plan for Saturday? Any idea of what time off road ride out will be leaving as I suspect there may be a few hazy heads on Saturday morning and it might be an idea to give folk prior warning. Also, to let people arriving on Saturday know so they don't miss it, if they want to come along.

We'll be down early Friday afternoon and look forward to seeing you all. I wonder what time I'll have my first pint of 'two pints'. I can taste it already!

Cheers Deb... Ribs are feeling much better so I will try and make it up. Still pretty painful though and dragging a loaded Africa Twin isnt fun when you're not at full strength.

We shall see................

Cropton

Must be mad but could you put me down for brekkie sat morning, shivering already. Is ther likely to be an off road ride as my bikes geared for off road and i will have to change for more road work. Cheers Dave:Beach:

Debz 14 Feb 2010 17:05

Hi Dave
Yes, the plan is to have an off road ride.

Debz

AlexD 16 Feb 2010 09:33

I'll be there

Could you put me down for cooked breakfast please on both days please?

Laura Bennitt 17 Feb 2010 14:46

Is it too late for me to request brekkie on Sunday now I know what I'm doing?

Laura

dazco 17 Feb 2010 16:02

Im gonna have to whimp out of this, sorry its at the last minute,
Laura, you can have my breckie that i had booked for the Sunday, save me a bit of toast ill have it next time.
Have fun everyone :mchappy:

Sleepdog 17 Feb 2010 22:19

Is it possible to add a breakfast for the Sat and Sunday mornings for 'Crusty'? Some of you may know of him as the crash test dummy for the Tenere at the last meet at Dent. He has informed me that he will be coming up for both evenings. If it is a problem I'm sure we can manage something. Cheers Steve:smartass:

Debz 18 Feb 2010 08:07

Hi Sleepdog

It'll be no problem to add another one in for breakfast.

I've spoken to Cropton and given them a rough idea of numbers but I said that there might be a few more/less.

See you tomorrow.

Chizz 18 Feb 2010 17:11

Hi all

I must admit I am beginning to question my sanity it was -7 here when I left for work this morning - still I am told it will be tropical in Yorkshire.

Laura/Alex - I understand we will be meeting up with you in Edinburgh tomorrow - I am looking forward to meeting you - if we have time are you ok if we will pop in to see Jake - it seems a shame that he set the ball rolling and now wont be able to attend.

Alex - Angus said you want to visit the altberg factory - that was my plan too - although I was going to go Saturday AM.

Chizz (Bruce)

kimandmatt 18 Feb 2010 17:20

Wish we were there!

Been following this thread jealously since the start, an inconsiderate friend decided to get his little boy christened on sunday so we were never able to make it.

We had such a great time in Dent in November and would love to be joining you!

Anyway, just thought we'd say have a great time, have a beer for us, and enjoy the tropical Yorksire weather:palm:.

Cheers

Matt and Kim

Laura Bennitt 18 Feb 2010 22:49

Forecast: heavy snow and overnight temperatures of -7.

Lalala.

Laura

britch 18 Feb 2010 23:17

It has been snowing here in Lancashire since about 17:00 but its not sticking at all, can't see it freezing tonight, so should be warmer than Wales two weeks ago :cool4:

Chizz 18 Feb 2010 23:33

Looks like we are not going to be able to leave until about ten - Angus may well have to go up to Pauls to dig him out - he lives a few hundred feet higher than the rest of us and there is still plenty of snow about - this is starting to look like its going to be a bit of a challenge !- laura/Alex we will give you a phone when we get to Balinuig - dont want to .leave you hanging about.

Just bought a new heated jacket so looking forward to putting it to the test.

Look forward to meeting you all tomorrow

That's a bit worrying. But with my head in the clouds, and while the sun shining - I'm setting off now. :smiliex:

The Cameraman 19 Feb 2010 17:17

Hi Debs,

good luck sweets.

At least the sheet and and dense fog have now cleared up at home!

Be careful out there.

Regards

Reggie

*Touring Ted* 19 Feb 2010 19:32

Well, there's black ice around my way and my rib is much much better and I've been out riding today.

BUT !! It's just too flipping cold for me ....

I'm a big girlie I know but my fingers were frost bitten and painful after a 20 minute ride today (with heated grips), so a 140 mile trip to Crompton would have me crying to my mummy..

Have fun guys and i'll see you when its a few degrees warmer :D

bodie 21 Feb 2010 08:54

Hi to all who were brave enough to go to this meet id watched from the start and wanted to attend after meeting some of you wild camping in may, well iv just got up to a thick blanket of snow and my first thoughts are with you all, hope it adds to the adventure and you keep warm (my biggest problem i need to eat a few more pies )anyway have fun and post some pics

The Cameraman 21 Feb 2010 09:03

Mornin' Guys n Gals,

well as we've had 3 inches of snow overnight North of Bolton, then I'm guessing those at the event will have more.

Take care you guys.

Looking forward to viewing images of the event.

Flyingdoctor 21 Feb 2010 10:37

Good luck to all on the BrassMonkeyTreffen!!

I bet those Serows got through, eh Reggie?

The Cameraman 21 Feb 2010 11:25

Hi Doc,

I couldn't think of a better bike in the snow than a trusty Serow!

Wouldn't like to break camp and pack all the kit up though in these conditions!

Still it makes for good photo's!

Reggie

PS It's the 10th anniversary event for the BMW C1 going into production and about a dozen of the lads rode down to the Midlands yesterday. Some were staying over and hoping to go to the Heritage Museum at Gaydon today. Can you imagine a worse vehicle to ride in the snow, with it's auto transmission, little road tyres, massive weight and a top heavy design! I hope those guys are OK.

Flyingdoctor 21 Feb 2010 12:21

At least they bounce well!

Seat belts done up, slacks pressed and brogues oiled the C1 "driver" is ready for anything! Ha ha. :scooter: (C1 cabriolet)

The Cameraman 21 Feb 2010 12:51

Hi Doc,

just doesn't bare thinking about!

now if the front wheel was swapped for a pair of snowmobile ski's, and an off road rear tyre was available, then that would be fun!

Reggie

Sleepdog 21 Feb 2010 16:28

He text me about his first trail biking experience so I can imagine he needs a bed to recover in before the ride home lol.

& just wait till you see the pictures of the big bikes!! A bit of an 'adventure' was had by all. I'm not saying any more - wait for the pics and a full report. It was a good one!

Got back ok. Brian and I set off towards Thirsk, but then heard there had been a domino effect pile up on the Sutton Bank road. Not fancying being bike sized dominoes in amongst it all, turned around (past Cropton again!) and went via Pickering/York (ish). Brian and I parted company at Knaresborough. All was fine except going over Saddleworth Moor was a little bit tricky!

Will be glad to hear that the others got back safely - especially the long distance ones: Laura - London & the Aberdeen lads.

Debs

Chizz 21 Feb 2010 18:10

Thanks to all

We got back about an hour ago - pretty hard going at times - a couple of blizzards and -5 on the A9 - thats at least 4 degrees warmer than on the way down!

had agreat time but just could not risk the ride out with the 400 mile return journey. Sorry we never got to pop in Jake but the conditions meant that we had to set ourself the target of getting home in daylight.

Great to have met some new folk and encouraging to know that there is people as mad (or dare i say madder) than us.

Apart from the lost pannier, broken indicator, forgotten tent poles, the three tons of dog sh*t i n my tent and the sub zero temperatures it was the perfect weekend!

Look forward to seeing you all again Chizz (Bruce)

The Cameraman 21 Feb 2010 18:11

Well done guys,

glad you're back safe & sound (if not a little chilled)!

Reggie

Chizz 21 Feb 2010 18:31

Hi Reggie

First trip ever with a heated jacket - still it was only 30 years of being unnecesarily cold ! it sometimes takes me a while to work thins out !

Debz 21 Feb 2010 18:44

Croptontreffen

Hi all
We're back safely. Roads weren't too bad. Riding conditions a bit dodgy at times though.

Thanks to Paul for leading the ride (or should that be slide?) out. I'll try and post some pics taken along with way.

Good to see you all and hope everyone had a good weekend!

Thanks to Jake for doing all the groundwork for this mini treffen.

Debz

P.S. I lost my navy Craghoppers fleece last night. Took it off in pub and put it with some other jackets and it was gone at the end of the night. If you empty your kit and come across an unfamiliar fleece it's probably mine. I'm hoping someone has picked it up by mistake. Cheers.

The Cameraman 21 Feb 2010 18:58

Hi Chizz,

heated kit's amazing isn't it!

Hi Debs,

loosing clothing already! How many pints had you had then?

Regards

Reggie

debseed 21 Feb 2010 19:33

Hi Reggie - That's Debz not Debs. I know it is confusing. Don't know how many pints Debz had. I only had a couple. :smartass: then I went on to the whisky:blushing:

Debs.

Glad you got back safely, Debz.

The Cameraman 21 Feb 2010 19:47

Hi Debs,

that OK then!

Laura Bennitt 21 Feb 2010 20:02

I'm alive! 7 hours, average of 40mph, but got here eventually. I lost the snow around Nottingham, only to find the million or so people heading home after half term, and miles and miles and miles of roadworks. Now bathed and with a glass of wine, looking forward to a 5am start and lots of hard work tomorrow.

Thanks to just about everyone there, but especially to Ian for picking me up (again and again and again) and providing an excellent tyre-changing demonstration, Paul for patching my tube and getting me safely to York, Steve for getting the TA down The Hill, and Alex for helping me sort my heated grips before the trip, I would not have survived without them!

Sold my old GPZ via fleabay on Sat, whatever the money goes towards will include knobbly tyres!!!

Laura

Croptontreffen

That's really good to know Laura, we need the rest to report safely in. At least most of the snow on the roads had turned to slush before we set off and the major roads were quite clear. Can't wait to see the pics myself.:funmeteryes:

Thanks for a excellent weekend,
All back safe and WARM.

Great intro for a first timer and the ride out polished the ‘how not too’ for the dodgy ride home, :funmeteryes:

Great meeting you all, can’t wait till the next time.

greenmanalishi 22 Feb 2010 17:10

Back home

Hi folks landed home about 30 minutes ago. Roads were great once I had left. I had some fun defrosting the tent and trying to get the ice off my brake disks and then getting the bike from the camp site up to the road but plain sailing from there on.

Had a fantastic weekend, terrifying, exhilerating, challenging and satisfying all in one hour! many thanks to everyone who picked me up again and again and then again several times over. Honestly I had not expected to go snowboarding on two wheels. MY idea of green laning is a clear tarmac lane with bits of green on either side......... Some white lines on the tarmac and some street lights would be ideal.

I will post my pics on my blog in a day or two when I have cleaned the snow and dog shit off the tent and hung it over the bath.

BTW Paul is a great guy but a bit of a sadist for dragging an aeging decrepit novice softy like me over a mountain top, thanks for lending me your bike to get down the hill. I owe you and many others big time.

Glad to hear everyone got home safely I thought about you all as I wallowed in the bath at the B+B.

Nice write up/pics

Must admit I dont feel too jealous about missing the rideout - I may just have fallen off more times than you ! .

Looking at the pics of the tents in the snow and got spotted by someone at work actual quote "you lot must be bl**dy crazy" - I hope so

Sleepdog 25 Feb 2010 20:59

Nice one Greenman, and I thought you were enjoying yourself!
Great write up, pity we didn't get more pics especially some of the 'off piste' antics but I think Debs has some.:funmeteryes:

bodie 25 Feb 2010 22:27

your write up certainly had me chuckling i had same idea about two sleeping bags and silk liner but i wasnt planning on camping in quite so cold temps but i suppose you never know well done now your all home safe a weekend to be proud off

Laura Bennitt 26 Feb 2010 22:19

well it seems getting from Yorkshire to London was the easy bit, the ride back up just took me nearly 10 hours, of which the last 42 miles (from leaving the M74) took over an hour and a half because of thick snow, building up to about 1-2 inches on the roads!! Luckily it seems I can ride on snowy roads better than on snowy trails, but still not much fun.

Laura

debseed 27 Feb 2010 08:46

Glad you got back safely, Laura. Bring on the summer, eh?! :Beach:

greenmanalishi 4 Mar 2010 22:14

I know its the wrong section but..

firstly glad you got back in one piece Laura.
Right as a lot people at the meet told me, I had the wrong tyres, I am going to change them but I require road biased tyres. Would Metzeler tourances cope with the trail we went on and are they any use for off roading? I am hoping to go to the next meet where ever that may be but that snow scared the hell out of me and I want tyres that will do the job.

Thanks in advance

Tourances are road tyres, as are Anarkees !!

There is no such thing as a "Do everything tyre" Stan !

For trails like that you would be better off with TKC80 or Sahara 3, but you would then lose road grip and confidence..
